Engineering Manager - Foundry

Division: Weir ESCO

This job is an Onsite Position

Purpose of Role: Plan, direct, and coordinate the functional areas of our foundry, including castings rigging, pattern changes, and manage the work activities of technical personnel and local support for manufacturing metallurgy products in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety Culture.
  • Responsible for manufacturability of New Product Development (NPD), trial process, and existing product quality.
  • Process control of foundry operations, utilizing process variation reduction (PVR) programs and key input variable (KIV) management.
  • Work along-side manufacturing and process engineering and control systems resources, including building and monitoring data acquisition systems and output to deliver action plans; to meet key metrics and facility strategic plans.
  • Responsible for ISO compliant quality system. Provide input on site strategy and tactical implementation of site goals. Contribute to financial objectives, implementing cost reduction projects. Provide performance management, career and talent development, and corrective action to staff as appropriate.

Job Knowledge/Experience:

  • Applying chemistry principles in sand and metallurgical processes; Experience with equipment, processes, and quality drivers in sand casting manufacturing; Analyzing sand-and-binder properties in relation to quality including Grain Fineness Number (GFN), percentage of fines and turbidity, shape, additions, and percentage of sand-binder-catalyst composition.
  • Applying refractory methodology, materials, and supplies for electric arc furnaces, argon oxygen decarburization vessels, and ladles.
  • Analyzing key process inputs for foundry variables, developing control limits, and creating and implementing countermeasures to prevent quality defects in castings; Analyzing material properties of metal associated with melting, pouring, and treating of steel.
  • Experience with magnetic particle and visual inspection for identification of castings defects; and knowledge of electrostatic painting operations desired.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, or related technical field. Prefer 5+ years of related work experience in industrial or metallurgical manufacturing.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for candidates that have the ability to perform the objectives above.
